Dr. Carter is a clinical neuropsychologist with 12 years of experience providing assessment, consultation, and intervention services to the stroke and acquired brain injury programmes at a rehabilitation facility. She continues to work part-time in a hospital-based service. Dr. Carter has a broad range of experience working with individuals undergoing cognitive changes from neurological and medical conditions in acute care, rehabilitation, and residential settings.

Dr. Carter provides neuropsychological assessment, consultation, and intervention services with a particular interest in return to employment, compensatory strategy development, and emotional adjustment to cognitive changes and neurological diagnoses. Her therapeutic approach is client-centered, collaborative, and rehabilitation-focused. She uses evidence-based cognitive-behavioural techniques and an individualized problem-solving approach to help clients and their families achieve their optimal level of functioning.

She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Windsor (Windsor, ON). She completed her predoctoral internship at London Health Sciences Centre (London, ON) and a postdoctoral research fellowship in neuropsychological rehabilitation in HIV/AIDS at St. Michael’s Hospital (Toronto, ON). She has been actively involved in training students throughout her career. She holds an Adjunct (Clinical Associate) appointment with the Dalhousie University Department of Psychology.
